Development kits help us to learn new embedded technologies. This includes hardware and software. It aid us in two ways, first all it help us to learn and test our firmware, secondly it serves as an reference how the hardware solution should be implemented. In this way it help you to achieve a faster time to market, again hardware and software, but also most importantly help you evaluate the hardware and if it will do the job. Development kits are normally very pricey, but well worth the money in the long run. Because the embedded world is our passion, we seem to collect development kits faster than bringing out new products. But the knowledge of what is on the market is well worth the time when learning a new architecture. Micro Controllers are changing rapidly of which power consumption is by far the main focus in the last 12 months.
